About Overlay PDF
Overlay PDF stamps one PDF on top of another: the first page of the overlay file is drawn over every page of your main document. Use it to put a letterhead, a "DRAFT" stamp, a form background or a frame onto an existing PDF.
The overlay is stretched to the size of each page. For the cleanest result, create the overlay at the same page size as your document, with a transparent background — for example, export your letterhead design as a PDF.
How to use Overlay PDF
- Upload your main PDF.
- Upload the overlay PDF (only its first page is used).
- Press Overlay and download the combined PDF.
Key features
- First page of the overlay applied to every page
- Vector quality — logos and text stay sharp
- Great for letterheads, stamps and form backgrounds
- Original document content stays underneath, unchanged
When to use Overlay PDF
- Placing a digital letterhead behind or over a letter exported without it.
- Adding a "DRAFT" or "APPROVED" stamp page designed in another program.
- Putting a pre-printed form design over filled-in data pages.
Tips and common problems
- Create the overlay at exactly the same page size as the document (A4 for A4) so it is not stretched.
- Export the overlay with a transparent background; a white background will cover your content.
- Only the first page of the overlay file is used, so remove other pages or put the design you want first.
Frequently asked questions
If the overlay page has a white background, it covers what is underneath. Export the overlay with a transparent background.
For a picture or logo, use Image Watermark, which accepts PNG and JPG directly.
The overlay is stretched to fit each page, which can distort it. Make the overlay the same size as your document pages.
