About Extract Images

Extract Images pulls out every picture embedded in a PDF and gives them to you in one ZIP file — photos from a brochure, figures from a report or logos from a document — in the format they were stored in the PDF, without re-compressing them.

This is different from converting pages to images: you get the original embedded pictures, not screenshots of whole pages. If you need a picture of each page instead, use PDF to JPG.

How to use Extract Images

  1. Upload the PDF that contains the images.
  2. Press Extract.
  3. Download the ZIP and unzip it to get every embedded image as a separate file.

Key features

  • Every embedded image, in its original stored format
  • No re-compression, so no extra quality loss
  • All images packed into a single ZIP download
  • Clear message when a PDF has no embedded images

When to use Extract Images

  • Getting product photos out of a supplier's PDF catalogue.
  • Saving the figures and charts of a report to reuse in a presentation.
  • Recovering a logo or signature image that was only sent to you inside a PDF.

Tips and common problems

  • Images come out at the resolution stored in the PDF, which may be lower than how large they appear on the page.
  • A scanned PDF usually contains one image per page — that is the whole page scan.
  • Respect copyright: extracting an image does not give you the right to reuse it.

Frequently asked questions

Vector drawings, charts drawn as shapes and text are not images, so they are not extracted. Some PDFs also store one picture as several tiles or keep a separate transparency mask, which appears as an extra file.
