About N-up PDF

N-Up PDF puts 2 or 4 pages of a PDF onto each sheet, so you can print handouts, save paper or review a long document at a glance. With 2-up, two pages are stacked on each sheet; with 4-up, four pages are arranged in a 2 × 2 grid.

Each page is scaled down to fit its slot with a small gap and keeps its proportions. The sheet size matches the first page of your document, so an A4 PDF becomes A4 sheets with smaller pages on them.

How to use N-up PDF

  1. Upload the PDF.
  2. Choose 2 or 4 pages per sheet.
  3. Press the button and download the new PDF, ready to print.

Key features

  • 2 pages per sheet or 4 pages per sheet (2 × 2)
  • Pages scaled to fit, proportions kept
  • Sheet size taken from your document
  • Halves or quarters the number of sheets to print

When to use N-up PDF

  • Printing lecture slides as handouts with 2 or 4 slides per sheet.
  • Saving paper when printing long drafts for proofreading.
  • Getting an overview of a long document by seeing several pages at once.

Tips and common problems

  • 4-up works best for slides and diagrams; for dense text, 2-up stays readable.
  • The sheet size comes from your first page — resize the PDF to A4 first if your pages have mixed sizes.
  • For double-sided printing, check your printer's duplex setting; the page order itself is not changed.

Frequently asked questions

At 2-up, normal body text is usually easy to read. At 4-up the text is about half its original size — fine for slides and overviews, small for dense documents.
