About Edit PDF Metadata
Edit PDF Metadata changes the hidden document properties of a PDF: Title, Author, Subject and Keywords. These are the details shown in your PDF reader's "Document Properties" window, in the browser tab when a PDF is opened online, and by search engines and document-management systems.
A clear title and author make shared PDFs look professional and easier to find. You can also clear fields that reveal more than you want — for example an old author name or the name of the software that created the file.
How to use Edit PDF Metadata
- Upload the PDF.
- Fill in the Title, Author, Subject and Keywords you want (separate keywords with commas). Leave a field empty to clear it.
- Press Save and download the PDF with the new properties.
Key features
- Edit Title, Author, Subject and Keywords
- Keywords split on commas into a proper list
- Page content is left exactly as it was
- Works with any normal, unprotected PDF
When to use Edit PDF Metadata
- Giving a report or e-book a proper title before publishing it on a website.
- Removing an old author name or a colleague's name from a document template.
- Adding keywords so a document-management system or search engine can find the PDF.
Tips and common problems
- The Title is often shown in the browser tab instead of the file name, so make it readable — not "Final_v3_new".
- Separate keywords with commas; each becomes a separate keyword in the PDF.
- Metadata is not secret — anyone can read it in their PDF reader's properties window.
Frequently asked questions
Browsers and many PDF readers show the Title property instead of the file name, and search engines may use it as the result title. A missing or wrong title looks careless.
No. Only the document information is rewritten; text, images and layout stay the same.
Not directly. Remove the protection with Unlock PDF first (you need the password), then edit the metadata.
