About JSON to CSV
JSON to CSV converts a .json file — an array of objects or a single object — into a CSV spreadsheet that opens in Excel, Google Sheets or Numbers. Each object becomes a row and each key a column.
Nested objects and arrays are flattened into dot-notation columns (address.city, items.0.name), so no value is lost. The CSV is saved with a UTF-8 marker so Excel shows Gujarati, Hindi and other non-English text correctly. Files are sent over HTTPS, processed on our server and deleted automatically after you download the result.
How to use JSON to CSV
- Upload a .json file.
- Press Convert.
- Download the CSV and open it in your spreadsheet app.
Key features
- Arrays of objects or a single object
- Nested data flattened to dot-notation columns
- UTF-8 with BOM — opens correctly in Excel
- Clear message with the position of any JSON error
When to use JSON to CSV
- Opening an API export or a database dump in Excel or Google Sheets.
- Sharing JSON data with colleagues who work in spreadsheets.
- Importing JSON records into tools that only accept CSV.
Tips and common problems
- An array of similar objects gives the cleanest table.
- Open the CSV in Excel with Data → From Text/CSV and set ID columns to Text to keep long numbers intact.
- Very deep nesting creates many columns — flatten or trim the JSON first if you only need a few fields.
Frequently asked questions
They become columns named with dots, such as user.address.city. CSV to JSON can rebuild the nesting from those names.
Every key becomes a column; rows without that key get an empty cell.
The error message shows where the problem is. You can also paste the JSON into JSON Validator to find and fix it.
