About CSV to JSON
CSV to JSON converts a .csv file into a JSON array of objects, using the header row as the keys. Quoted fields, commas and line breaks inside values are parsed correctly, and comma, semicolon or tab separators are all handled.
Headers written in dot notation (address.city) are rebuilt into nested objects, so a JSON → CSV → JSON round trip gives back your original structure. Files saved by Excel in older encodings are read correctly too. Files are sent over HTTPS, processed on our server and deleted automatically after you download the result.
How to use CSV to JSON
- Upload a .csv file with a header row.
- Press Convert.
- Download the JSON file.
Key features
- Header row becomes the keys
- Dot-notation headers rebuilt into nested objects
- RFC-4180 parsing: quotes, commas, line breaks
- UTF-8 and older Windows encodings read correctly
When to use CSV to JSON
- Turning a spreadsheet export into JSON for an API, a web app or test fixtures.
- Converting product or contact lists into JSON for import.
- Rebuilding nested JSON from a CSV created with JSON to CSV.
Tips and common problems
- Make sure the first row contains clear column names — they become the JSON keys.
- Use dot-notation headers (address.city) when you want nested objects.
- Codes like 007 and long IDs stay text, so they are not damaged.
Frequently asked questions
Plain numbers such as 42, -3 or 12.5 become JSON numbers, and true/false become booleans. Anything that would change if converted — 007, +919876543210, 12.50, dates, percentages and very long IDs — stays text exactly as written.
The first row is always used as the keys. Add a header row first for meaningful key names.
Yes — JSON to CSV flattens it into a spreadsheet again.
